Don’t get Taken

I was incensed to learn about someone I know and care about who was almost taken advantage of by a contractor. After purchasing an electric car, he started experiencing some home electrical problems. The worst of the issues was impacting his home's air conditioning system on severely hot days. When the car was plugged in, the air conditioner would stop working.

He contacted an electrical contractor who visited his home, reviewed the problem, and worked to present a solution. The bid for the repair was a whopping $12,000. He almost hired this contractor to complete the work at the bid price, but a mutual friend learned of the information and contacted one of my fellow First Saturday Realtors and shared the bid with her. This agent reviewed the bid, as they had seen many electrical proposals and were floored by the price and the superlative “services” built into the bid. The most inflammatory line item was an “annual electrical service agreement” that cost $300. If you know anything about electrical service, you don’t need to service your electrical system annually.

The agent worked to have two electrical contractors assess the issue and provide estimates on the necessary repairs. Both bids were $3,000 to fix the issue completely. Fortunately, the homeowner saved $9,000 and now has a functioning air conditioner and sufficient power to charge his car without impacting the rest of the home’s power supply. Not every story like this has a happy ending, and there are many stories I hear of contractors taking advantage of people who simply don’t know what home systems or services should cost.

PLEASE CALL ME!

Call me when you are considering a home repair or project. As an agent, I make it my business to understand home systems and how much repair and maintenance of these systems should cost. I also have contacts for almost every home system or repair, including HVAC, windows, electrical, flooring, roofing, landscaping, drainage, gutters, remodeling, plumbing, water in the basement, fencing, and anything related to home maintenance or repair. I have used and referred these contractors many times, and they all are sure to take excellent care of anyone I refer.

Whether you are a friend, client, past client, or future client, reach out to me when you need a professional to do anything at your home. I am always happy to help anyone avoid an expensive and frustrating mistake like paying $12,000 for a $3,000 repair.
